Presentation of the activities of the first edition of the LABA Paris residency program
New works by artists inspired by classical Jewish texts

LABA Paris organized an event on 18 November 2025 presenting the outcomes of the first edition of its residency program devoted to the theme of change. Over the course of six months, the artists worked with Rabbi Mira Neshamah Niculescu, Talmud scholar Sophie Bigot Goldblum, and philosopher David Lemler, reading classical Jewish texts as living material something to be explored, dismantled, and reassembled within the creative process. A shared question that emerged during the residency concerned how tradition behaves when it encounters contemporary art: how to change without destroying, how to repair without turning it into a relic, and how to transmit what remains in motion.
The residency presentation took place at Galerie Joseph in the Le Marais district of Paris, where each artist was given an individual space to present their creative process and resulting works, including installations, performances, films, and works in progress. The event was accompanied by a discussion with the artists, moderated by Anaelle Gobinet Choukroun, focusing on heritage, renewal, roots, and artistic expression. The audience included representatives of cultural institutions, members of the artistic community, and individuals interested in the emergence of a new creative space on the French cultural scene.
In subsequent parts of the event, the artists guided participants through their works, both during the evening opening on 18 November and the following morning. The event created a dynamic space for an encounter between contemporary art and Jewish imagination, allowing the audience to experience how new interpretations of tradition can shape the current cultural landscape.
