City Memory – Discovering the Unseen Histories of Wrocław

Why do we remember certain events while others fade into oblivion? How do stories passed down in families, neighborhoods, and communities shape our identity? How do old prejudices influence interpersonal relationships today?

We invite you to a unique workshop combining the discovery of Wrocław's less obvious heritage with reflection on the mechanisms of stereotypes and discrimination. We will begin with conversations and exercises that will help you understand how collective memory works, where stereotypes come from, and why we sometimes "make shortcuts" when judging others. Then, we will set off on a walking tour of Nadodrze, where we will visit memorial sites connected to pre-war residents, the Jewish community, and forgotten histories. Local activists (scholars and guides) will share stories that have not made it into school textbooks, yet are an important part of our shared past. This will be a day full of conversations, shared explorations, and the exchange of experiences – in an atmosphere of respect, openness, and curiosity.
